Details
“The Song of Everlasting Regret,” China’s first large-scale live-action historical dance drama, is widely acclaimed as a benchmark for the country’s tourism and cultural creative industry. Centered on the love story of Tang Emperor Xuanzong and Yang Guifei, the production redepicts moving passages from the long poem of the same name at the very place where the story unfolded, weaving history with reality, nature with culture, human with celestial, and tradition with modernity, combining everything into a seamless whole.
This dance drama runs 65 minutes and unfolds in ten acts: “A daughter of the Yang family, newly come of age,” “One day, chosen to serve by the emperor’s side,” “Whispered words of love in the dead of night,” “In the chill of spring, an imperial bath in the Huaqing Pool,” “The Palace on Mount Li, reaching high into the clouds,” “After a feast in the jade tower, drunk on the joys of spring,” “Heavenly music drifting on the breeze, heard everywhere,” “War drums from Yuyang shake the earth,” “A jeweled hairpin fell, left untouched on the ground” and “In heaven or on earth, we shall meet again.” Through natural scenery, classical music and dance, poetic narration, and high-tech lighting, sound, and special effects, the show vividly conveys the magnificence of the High Tang era and an immortal love legend, transporting audiences across time to experience the poignant tale that took place over a thousand years ago at the foot of Mount Li beside the Huaqing Palace.

"The Song of Everlasting Regret" in Xi'an is more than just a love story, it's a lament for the fall of a golden age and a tribute to a glorious past that can never be reclaimed.
Yang Guifei is the most dazzling symbol of the prosperous Tang Dynasty—beautiful, radiant, and luminous. When the splendor fades and her story ends, the brilliant Tang Dynasty slowly dims with her. The entire performance unfolds without a single line of dialogue, yet the narration tells the story with perfect clarity. The stage design, which integrates real landscapes and stunning lighting, is so breathtakingly beautiful it will leave you speechless.
When visiting Xi'an, this is a performance that you truly must see.

The show was one surprise after another. Forget the plot for a second—just the sheer scale of the scenery was already mind-blowing!
The entire Mount Li serves as the backdrop for the stage. When the imperial concubine first appeared, I was actually a little scared! Against the pitch-black sky, a woman in white seemed to float down from above. It was so spooky it made my hair stand on end. And then, a projection appeared on a water screen. In a flash, the screen vanished, the stage lights came on, and this stunning natural stage was revealed right before my eyes. I literally got goosebumps when the entire Mount Li lit up.
They even used real fire for the An Lushan Rebellion scene. What an incredible stage!
